Shirley left her mark on her community, church and family in so many ways. Some of which are clearest now she is no longer with us. A capable, practical person - very much in the keep calm and carry on mode, she was always willing to roll up her sleeves or put her excellent organisational skills to use. Quietly and effectively: being a Girl Guide leader and Scottish Country Dance Teacher; to setting up carer respite programs in Stornoway; organising nativity plays; being a Church Elder at Park Church Ardrossan and a choir member among other roles. All while loving and caring for her own family - married to John for over 46 years and raising two children together. Her sense of satisfaction in all of these roles came from the positive impact she saw it made to others. An avid gardener in the spring/summer months, at least, whenever she did put her feet up she would usually be found still with her hands and mind busy with a crossword, sudoku puzzle, cross stitch or knitting. Her approach to life was selfless and she hated to be a burden or put anyone out. Even during her illness with ovarian cancer she was continually thinking about others - even how hard it must be for the Doctors treating her!
