Phyllis Biggar

07 Dec 1941 - 19 Nov 2022

Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Phyllis Biggar, a dearly loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Phyllis grew up in the Netherlee area of Glasgow with her three brothers, David, Neale and Bill, spending her holdays at the family home in Millport. She met and married her husband, Douglas, in 1962 and they moved to Beith to start their family. As a young mother Phyllis ran the local nursery group with her friends, Joan and Joanne, and many local children of the late 1960s and early 1970s will have fond memories of their time under her care. She was a secretary and bookkeeper for Douglas’s business, Thomson Relay, and would regularly field telephone calls from customers outwith office hours. After retiring, she and Douglas toured extensively in Cuba, South Africa, New Zealand and South America, often travelling with only their backpacks and without reservations being made. Phyllis was an active member of the community, participating in crafting, social and neighbourhood groups throughout the Garnock Valley area. In her spare time she would enjoy the challenge of a cryptic crossword or sudoku and the intrigue of the items on The Antiques Roadshow. We would be delighted if you could share your memories of Phyllis with us and consider making a donation in her memory to Ayrshire Hospice, who provided so much care and support for her in her later life.
