In Memory

Dan McKiernan

In memory of Dad, who passed away peacefully at the Ayrshire Hospice, we would appreciate any donations to help continue the amazing work that the hospice does. Dad was a volunteer driver for the Ayrshire Hospice for almost 16 years, after taking early retirement from the Bank of Scotland. Dad loved to chat, and he enjoyed meeting the many people that he drove to and from the hospice - he was often humbled by the humour, resilience and positivity they showed in the face of their battles, and he was proud to contribute, in his own way, to making their time easier. This very much helped him come to terms with his own cancer diagnosis. Dad had such admiration for the hospice teams. He asked to be in the hospice at the end, a familiar place where he knew many of the incredible staff. We cannot express enough gratitude for the amazing compassion and care given to Dad and for the countless members of staff who came by to see him, to tell us their stories of how they knew him, and who referred to him as ‘one of us’. We will also never forget their support as we sat by Dad’s bedside that final night and said our goodbyes. With grateful thanks also to the Station 9 staff at the Ayr Hospital and the doctors and district nurses from the Racecourse Road Medical Group, all of whom compassionately cared for Dad and supported the family.
