Valerie RichmondValerie's working career has predominantly been within the public sector having held various positions within Strathclyde Regional Council, West of Scotland Water, North Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire & Arran, increasing her knowledge, skills and qualifications along the way. Valerie joined the Ayrshire Hospice in 1995 as Support Services Manager and having always lived in Ayrshire was aware of the hospice's reputation both as an excellent clinical service and also as a responsible, caring employer. She was attracted to the position due to the diversity of the role and also to work for such a worthy organisation.

Valerie was appointed to the position of Support Services Director in 2010 and this role in conjunction with the Chief Executive and other Executive Team members, ensures the strategic development, implementation and monitoring of the Hospice Strategic Plan and the professional leadership of Hospice Support Services.

She is organisationally responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and compliance of all systems, policies and procedures relating to HR, ITC and Health & Safety ensuring that the hospice is fit for purpose and meets all relevant legislation and standards. Also, responsible for the overall management and performance of Support Service Departments which include Facilities, Administration, Catering, Housekeeping and Hairdressing as well as the organisations infrastructure, estates and facilities in order to effectively achieve the vision and agreed strategic plans.

Valerie supported in this diverse range of responsibilities by the Administration Manager, Catering Manager and Facilities Manager who lead and manage their respective teams effectively. None of this could be achieved without the commitment and diligence of the staff within Support Services.

Valerie believes strongly in continuous professional development a principle held in high regard within the Ayrshire Hospice and since commencing employment have supplemented her qualifications by achieving the NEBOSH and eMBA awards.
