Our shops are a valuable source of income for the hospice, helping to raise the £8.7 million needed to provide our services across the whole of Ayrshire and Arran.
We completely rely on the generosity of the local community to donate the goods which we sell within our shops. We are able to accept a wide range of items from clothes and jewellery to books and DVDs as well as larger items like furniture.
What items can be donated?
While we are grateful for the donations that are made are to us there are unfortunately some restrictions on the items that we can accept. If you are in any doubt as to whether we will be able to accept your donated items please give your local shop a call. You can find your nearest shop with our Shop finder. Please note that we are unable to offer collection services for donations including furniture collections.
Items we can accept
We accept a wide variety of items with only a few limitations as dictated by Health and Safety Legislation. You can donate: Clothing (ladies, gents & children’s), Genuine CDs and DVDs, China, Bric-a-brac, Handbags, Jewellery, Coats, Mirrors, Furniture (with some restrictions).
Items we can’t accept
We are governed by Health and Safety Legislation, the same as any other retail outlet, therefore we are unable to accept: Toys without a CE tag; Furniture items with soft furnishing elements like beds and sofas without a fire-retardant label; Bicycle helmets.
Furniture
Our main furniture shop is our Crown Street Home Depot shop and donation centre in Ayr which is large enough to accept all kinds of furniture including sofas, wardrobes, and dining room tables to name but a few. Other stores may be able to accept furniture however space in our stores is limited so we kindly ask that you email photos of larger items like furniture to retail@ayrshirehospice.org to allow our team to assess your item and inform you if we will be able to accept it. Alternatively please call your local shop who may be able to assist.

For every £1 your donated item sell for we can claim a further 25p from HM Revenue and Customs if you are a UK taxpayer. All our staff will always ask when you make a donation and it only takes a moment to register you on our automated systems in store.
Ring before you bring
Due to the volume of donations we sometimes receive, we encourage donors to “Ring Before You Bring” and contact your local shop so they can advise you of their current stock holding and the best days or times to donate. We never want to refuse donations and will only put the accepting of donations on hold where we have no other alternative.
