On a yearly basis the craft team raise an exceptional amount of money for the hospice through their wonderful creations, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work and talents.

From baby’s knitwear, to sewing aprons, household items, tissue holders and much, much more these ladies make it all! The craft team don’t charge for their time or the material they use and as with all our volunteers, they allow us to offer a broader range of services and bring a strong community perspective to the hospice.

Careen Muir is involved in the administrative side of the craft team and does a fantastic job in selling these creations at different shows and events.

Careen said: “The craft team is happy to contribute and offer our time and skills. We may not necessarily be the biggest group of volunteers but we thoroughly enjoy lending a hand in any way we can, every little helps.

So many of our team work quietly behind the scenes and it’s nice to see their work being recognised”.

Careen’s husband Ian died in the hospice four years ago:

“During this traumatic time, I was so impressed by the kindness, care and understanding Ian received. Nothing was too much trouble. In addition to caring for Ian, the staff also cared for me, providing simple things that make such a big difference, like a hot meal and a cup of tea”.

“This was my inspiration to join the crafts team. Following Ian’s death I was keen to help.”

Careen adds “We are always looking for creative helpers. People who would like to exchange ideas and volunteers who would be willing to man our stand, selling items at different events. We would also be extremely grateful for donations in terms of material and wool, keeping us crafting and helping the hospice cause.”

The next meeting of the craft team is on Tuesday 25th August in the Drop in Café at Racecourse Road, Ayr. Careen and the team will also be in attendance at the monthly Ladies Lunch on 21st October, Ayr Town Hall on 14th November as well as the hospice Winter Fair at Ayr Racecourse, also on 14th November.
