Nuts for netball

Congratulations to Stewarton Ladies Netball for organising the extremely successful Play on the Pitch 2 on Saturday 10th June!

Over 300 netballers, fans, volunteers, umpires and sponsors gathered at Kilmarnock FC to support the charity, netball tournament which saw the Rugby Park football pitch transformed into nine, open-air, netball courts.  Organised in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice, Scottish Disability Sport and Scottish Autism the tournament looks to have raised about £8,000!

Sharon Kearney from Stewarton Ladies Netball said “Play on the Pitch is a fun, inclusive event for lovers of netball.  It’s a fantastic way to raise the profile of the sport and encourage more people of all ages to get playing at a grassroots level, whilst raising money for charity.

Our thanks go to Billy Bowie, Director at Kilmarnock Football Club and Depute Provost Clare Leitch for opening the event, volunteer photographer Jack Mellon, George and his fantastic Zumba team for the warm up, Kilmarnock FC support staff (particularly Paul, Mark and Gordon) and players Will Graham and Ray Montgomerie from Kilmarnock FC for presenting the awards. Thanks also to the Co-op Stewarton and the Park Hotel who helped stock our ever-popular tuck shop and to The Working Wardrobe and The Referral Exchange for their invaluable support. Last but not least, thanks to all the schools in both East Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire who lent the essential netball nets!  We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback and generosity of our supporters and are so glad they had fun and enjoyed the event”.

Huge congratulations go to the cup winners of the league section “St Andrews Diamonds”, cup winners of the non-league section “Five Decades of Netball” (Williamwood) and junior champions “Paisley Juniors” as well as all runners up and each and every participating team. Impressive skills, effort and fundraising all round!
