Norman Rennie from Seamill Hydro Hotel & Resort donates to the hospice

Norman Rennie, General Manager at Seamill Hydro Hotel & Resort gave a very special donation to Ayrshire Hospice this week.  Norman’s wife Linda died in May after a very short cancer diagnosis.  Linda received care at home from Ayrshire Hospice Respite and Response Service which offers support to patients with life-limiting illness and carers at home.  The team help people who want to be cared for at home, by offering their carers the support and rest they need to look after them.

After Linda was diagnosed, Norman and Linda’s family and friends came together to do what they could for the family to make their last few weeks together as special as possible.  Close friends Chris McMail and Linda Hill started a Just Giving page for the family and over £3000 was raised in a few days.  This enabled some special activities to be arranged including a special VIP trip for the family to Disney on Ice, something that will remain a very treasured memory for Linda’s grandchildren.

Norman and his family decided that the remainder of the money raised through the Just Giving page, and donations at Linda’s funeral, should be given to Ayrshire Hospice and he recently presented a cheque for £2833.58 to Fiona Menzies, Head of Fundraising at Ayrshire Hospice.

Norman said “It is very hard to find words to describe how the angels from the Ayrshire Hospice sprinkled their fairy dust and organised for Carole our carer – she was just a twinkling, miracle star! Linda loved Carole for her passionate and personal assistance and for styling Linda's hair during her illness as she was so proud of her hair. Thanks too to Christine for nurturing Linda and myself with complementary therapies and massage and finally to all at the carers café for their guidance and knowledge, helping me through caring for Linda week to week and planning my future with my daughters and grandchildren. The hospice in our eyes, are just super, super stars!”
