Launch of the People Strategy

Launch of People Strategy

Posted on 11 April 2018 by Monika Reichelt

We recently launched our hospice People Strategy which, at its very heart, acknowledges that “it is the quality, support and services provided by employed and voluntary staff across the organisation which sets the Ayrshire Hospice apart”.

Following extensive consultation, the strategy quotes directly from employed and voluntary staff, patients and carers and highlights a number of recognised and desirable behaviours that we want to embrace. These behaviours include respect, trust, accountability, positivity, honesty and feeling valued.

The strategy aims to support and encourage these behaviours and attributes and make sure the hospice continues to be an employer and organisation of choice, where each contribution is valued, performance is measured and achievements recognised and rewarded.

A people vision is also set out within the strategy which states:

“Together we will develop a skilled, engaged, motivated and resilient workforce committed to the vision of our organisation to improve the lives of everyone in Ayrshire affected by life-limiting illness”.

Six key priorities are also identified:

  • Appropriate and efficient resources exist to ensure the success of our organisation
  • An organisation of choice; committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of our people
  • Develop effective leaders and managers who inspire and empower people to achieve our organisational goals
  • Build on individual competence and capability ensuring continuous improvement to deliver exceptional services
  • Create a culture where our hospice values are embedded in everything we do
  • Our organisation will reward and recognise staff capabilities, skills, behaviours and performance

The People Strategy also highlights the critical role all employed and voluntary staff have to play in the continued development and success of the hospice and the need to have a flexible, innovative and adaptable workforce if the hospice is to meet future needs of patients and their families.

An action plan that focusses on delivering the People Strategy priorities is now being developed in consultation with employed and voluntary staff across the hospice.  Copies of the People Strategy can be obtained from the Organisational and People Development Department by calling 01292 269200 or email: lorna.samson@ayrshirehospice.org
