The Ayrshire Hospice is delighted to be extending its highly successful retail network with the opening of a 10th shop in Prestwick on Wednesday 18th January.

The brand new hospice shop at 38 Main Street opened its doors to then instantly welcome the very first customers, who had a chance to browse through the wide selection of new and second hand goods on offer. In the spirit of Burns Night, the shop window display is dedicated to all things Scottish with a little Valentine’s Day twist.

Accompanied by hospice staff and volunteers, Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive and Ayrshire Hospice business ambassador, Val Russell, performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new shop. The celebration was also marked with a deliciously purple cake kindly provided by Buzzworks.

Val Russell said: “I am delighted to be opening the 10th hospice retail outlet in Prestwick. Charity shops are a common feature on our high streets and make a valued contribution to the funding required to deliver hospice services to patients and families across Ayrshire. I would like to congratulate all of the hospice staff and volunteers who have been involved in making this happen.”

Ayrshire Hospice shops play a huge role in generating much needed funds for the hospice. In 2015/16 the shops generated over £880,000 making them the fourth highest fundraising stream for the hospice. Additionally, the hospice shops continue to be ranked highly in the annual UK Charity Shops Survey. In the most recent survey, Ayrshire Hospice shops were reported to have the 3rd highest profit margin (48%) across all hospices surveyed and 4th highest profit margin across all survey participants (75 charities, 6933 shops). On the key measure of average profit per shop per week, the Ayrshire Hospice ranks third highest at a level of £1036 per week, more than double the charity sector.

Angie Wallace, the Prestwick shop manager said: “It’s very exciting for all of us and we can’t wait to meet all of our customers and show them round. We have a fantastic team who worked hard in preparation for today’s opening and we are extremely happy that we finally are up and running”.

Angie continued: “We would like to thank everyone who has donated items to the shop, including the furniture which has been upcycled and used as part of the shop’s interior design”.

Anyone interested in donating goods to the Prestwick shop should get in touch with the shop manager, Angie Wallace by calling 01292 471146.

The Prestwick shop is open Monday – Saturday, 10am-4pm.
