Garden Room opening

On Wednesday 13th July, Ayrshire Hospice had a pleasure to officially open the brand new, beautiful Garden Room! Supported by numerous business ambassadors, the hospice held a symbolic launch event, where the room was officially unveiled to the staff and visitors. Designed to offer a tranquil space for hospice patients, visitors, staff and volunteers alike, the room will provide a calm place of reflection and contemplation, available to those who may be in need of some quiet time. The attendees were able to take a few moments to admire this peaceful facility and discussed the benefits of having this type of premise within the hospice.

The Garden Room came to life through a huge amount of support from Miss MJM Smith’s Trust, who kindly funded the initiative, as well as the hospice staff, like Vicky Revie, Lena Baird and Dougie Beattie, who worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth completion of the project. Lena Baird, a recently retired Occupational Therapist from the hospice, was involved in the organisation and planning of the Garden Room and was very pleased to see it fully finished and ready to use. She said:

“It is truly wonderful to see it come together; to watch somebody’s idea blossom into something amazing. I’ve seen this room in various stages and it feels great to finally see it completed, especially knowing it will help other people. I believe this will be a great place to take a few moments, relax and have a nice time”.

Shona Hynd, hospice’s Clinical Services Director, gave a short speech at the event explaining how the idea for a Garden Room first originated:

“The Idea of creating a hospice Garden Room originated in summer 2013. Our chaplain at that time, Ian Stirling, and the very recently retired Lena Baird, our Occupational Therapist, recognised that quiet spaces for reflection were in short supply within the hospice footprint. This is a really important space for patients and their families who are often facing troubled times and are perhaps feeling quite overwhelmed with everything that’s happening to them at this most difficult time in their lives”.

Ayrshire Hospice is always committed to ensuring that the patients, families and staff have everything they need to feel comfortable within the facility. We are hoping that this new addition to the hospice will be of great value to those who require it the most.
