Margaret was delighted to join the Ayrshire Hospice as Patient Services Director in 2017.  In that role she works alongside the Chief Executive, the other Executive Directors and the Lead Consultant to provide vision and strategic leadership. Margaret is responsible for the delivery of high quality care which is based on best practice and is provided by a skilled and motivated workforce. She is committed to ensuring that our services at Ayrshire Hospice will meet the current and future needs of our population.

Margaret lived in Ireland until she was 17. In her family, there was always an emphasis on caring for others and from an early age she wanted to pursue a career in nursing. Margaret trained as a Registered Nurse in Edinburgh and developed a love for Scotland which has always stayed with her. Following 10 years’ experience as a nurse and midwife in the NHS, she decided to specialise in palliative care. Margaret now has 20 years’ experience as a clinician, leader and manager in specialist palliative care having worked in Scotland, England and Ireland and was one of the first groups of nurses to complete a BSc in Palliative and Cancer Care in Scotland. Margaret has since completed an MSc in Palliative Care and the first year of a 2 year MSc programme in Management in Healthcare.

She has two grown up children that are both Scottish. In my free time she enjoys spending time with them. Margaret loves to walk and to listen to all kinds of music. She has been known to take the opportunity of dancing around the kitchen when cooking!
