Our in-patient unit has the facility to care for 20 patients in a mix of single, double or three-bedded rooms. We offer a relaxed, homely environment where patients can spend quality time with family and friends.

Within the in-patient unit we can help to manage symptoms, and offer short-term intervention, multidisciplinary assessment as well as planned respite and end-of-life care. We plan individualised care in consultation with patients and families and our nursing team are present 24 hours a day.

Members of the clinical team that might be involved in in-patient unit care include doctors, nurses, pharmacists, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, our chaplain and a team of specifically trained volunteers.

Our facilities include comfortable lounge areas, a quiet room and extensive gardens. There are facilities for families to stay if needed, including our ‘wee house’ and lovely overnight stay accommodation.

Visiting times

In order to protect our most vulnerable patients, Ayrshire Hospice has taken the decision to restrict visitors to the in-patient unit during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Patient care is our top priority.  Please only visit the hospice if absolutely necessary.  If you would like assistance with Skype calls etc please contact the nursing team looking after the patient.

Visiting in the In Patient Unit will be restricted to two nominated people for two one hour slots.  These  slots are 2pm – 3pm and 7pm – 8pm.  These nominated visitors cannot be changed throughout the patients stay.  Visitors will be asked to use PPE and advice on how to do this will be available from the nursing team.  Children under 16 years are not permitted to visit at this time. Please arrive and leave promptly at visiting times.

From 7/7/20 patients at the hospice may be able to have extra visitors to the window of their room- if you would like to have this arranged please discuss with the charge nurse on duty

Planning discharge

Many of our patients are able to return home after a stay in the in-patient unit. Discharge will be planned after discussion with the patient and their family.
