Back in May, the largest group of runner's we've ever had took part in this year's Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Taking to the streets of the capital, our Hospice Heroes completed the half and full marathon distances as one of the best runs on the calendar made its triumphant comeback.

The half marathoners - Alasdair, Amanda, Billy, Claire, Laura, Nacho, Scott, Stacey and Zoe W began their day at 8am and all crossed the line with amazing times. Our marathoners - Darren, Gregor, Jillian, Johnny, Kyran, Lynsey and Zoe J began at 10am and all made their way through Edinburgh and along the coast to the finish line at Pinkie Playing Fields in Musselburgh.

It was a fantastic day with perfect weather conditions and all our runners were met at the finish line by some of our Hospice staff, Elaine and Lauren, to be thanked and congratulated on their incredible achievement.

Congratulations to all our runners for all they did on the day and for their superb fundraising efforts as collectively, all 16 runners raised an incredible £10,135.20 for the Hospice in memory of their loved ones.

Graeme Strawhorn, Assistant Fundraising Manager said:

"We're absolutely delighted with the amazing effort of our runners this year. All that sweat and determination has really paid off - well done! The support of so many who have been touched by our care means so much to us and we cannot thank them all enough. The team were delighted to join in the celebrations and congratulate our runners in the charity village after the race."

Raceday was Alasdair's birthday and he ended up with the best present of all - a personal best time for his half marathon! Friends stacey and Amanda ran together for the Hospice as part of the 'Fit Ayrshire Masses Team'. Nacho ran his 10th (!!) half marathon in memory of his father-in-law to be, John McLaughlin and Darren who, after 2 years of postponement, finally managed to complete the Edinburgh Marathon with his best friend Andrew!
