Come and join the Ayrshire Hospice Team making today matter for patients and families across Ayrshire.  We currently have a new permanent vacancy for a Senior Pharmacy Technician within our busy Patient Services Team.

About Us

The Ayrshire Hospice provides quality specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting illness within Ayrshire and Arran.  We provide a wide range of services and care in people’s homes, care homes and hospitals, as well as in the hospice itself.  This is provided at no cost to our patients or their families.  Our vision is to reach and improve the lives of everyone in Ayrshire affected by life-limiting illness.

The Role and what we are looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic registered pharmacy technician to join the growing team working within Ayrshire Hospice to promote quality and cost-effective prescribing and safe medicines management for palliative patients across Ayrshire and Arran.

The post holder will be based in the In-Patient Unit at Racecourse Road in Ayr but will also help support patients in the community to optimise their medicine management. The role includes all aspects of medicines management to ensure safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines in line with local and national guidelines.  You will also provide pharmaceutical support through reviewing of prescribing data, performing audits and supporting safe use of medicines on admission and discharge.

You will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, comprising pharmacy, nursing, medical, AHP’s, social work and chaplaincy. A key requirement of this role is delivery teaching sessions to staff around medicine management issues and using technology to deliver information sessions to patients and carers about their medicines. It is an exciting opportunity to be involved as hospice services evolve, and we build our new hospice fit for the future.

You may have a community or hospital pharmacy background. Good communication, interpersonal and time management skills are essential.

This post is part time, 22.5 hours per week, preferably over 4 or 5 days but this is negotiable

What we will give in return

At the Ayrshire Hospice we strive to live by our Hospice values and commitments, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect. We aim to create an equitable working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential.

The Ayrshire Hospice is a friendly, welcoming and supportive place to work. As part of the Hospice Team, you can enjoy a variety of benefits including a competitive salary, generous annual leave, organisational pension scheme, employee assistance programme, comprehensive induction, continuous learning and development opportunities and access to the NHS Staff Benefits Scheme.

If you are full of passion and enthusiastic about the difference you could make and making today matter then we look forward to hearing from you.
