As Director of Finance and Income Generation Colin has organisational responsibility for the financial governance of all hospice income and expenditure transactions and activity, making sure that we meet all relevant accounting regulations and standards.

Colin is responsible for the financial accountability of the organisation as a registered Charity and Company and provide financial information, reports and professional advice to the Executive Team and Management Council regarding the financial administration and performance of the organisation.

As part of the Executive Management Team he contributes to the overall development, implementation and monitoring of the Hospice strategic direction and initiatives. In particular Colin develops the organisational financial strategy and the income generation strategy which identifies new opportunities for generating income whilst building on and refining our existing revenue streams.

Having completed a degree in Accountancy, Colin's working career began in 1991 when he participated in the NHS Scotland National Graduate Trainee scheme as a National Finance Trainee. Completing his professional training and studying with NHS Ayrshire & Arran, he qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) in 1995. Upon qualification he moved to work with NHS Dumfries & Galloway in the role of Treasury & Financial Accountant for the then Community NHS Trust before moving to the private sector to work with the multi-national accountancy firm KPMG as a Senior Auditor for a range of public sector clients. During this time Colin specialised in completing a national programme of 'value for money' reviews for NHS clients.

Returning to his local roots in 1998, Colin re-joined NHS Ayrshire & Arran in the newly developed role of Primary Care Development Accountant. From then until 2010 he held a range of progressive roles within NHS Ayrshire & Arran which included Commissioning Accountant, Senior Finance Manager and Assistant Director of Finance.

Outwith his working career Colin has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Befriending and Respite Services (BARS) charity in North Ayrshire and have also been a practitioner volunteer and treasurer for the Counselling Ayrshire charity. In addition to this he served as a member of the East Ayrshire Children's Panel for seven years and as a member of the Board of Management of Kilmarnock College for seven years wherein he also acted as Chair of the College Finance Committee.
