Make a Will, Make a Difference

Our ‘Make a Will Fortnight’ campaign takes place during October 2020 and it’s another fantastic opportunity to support your local hospice particularly during the current pandemic where fundraising is challenging for charities.

Between Monday 19th and Friday 30th October, people in Ayrshire will have the opportunity to make or update their Will in exchange for a donation to the hospice.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a difficult situation for everyone and also a reflective time for many.  By making a Will, you can ensure that those closest to you are looked after in the future.  You will not only be taking care of your loved ones but also helping your local hospice by making a donation to the campaign.

It’s easy and affordable – all you have to do is arrange an appointment with one of the participating solicitors.

Ron Swanson, Assistant Fundraising Manager at the Ayrshire Hospice said: “We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to all participating solicitors who are giving their time and expertise free of charge, and to supporters across the Ayrshire community.”

Last year, over £22,000 was raised during the Make a Will Fortnight with over 400 Wills being prepared or updated by a team of over 30 supporting solicitors across Ayrshire and Arran.  This established campaign has collectively raised over £200,000 for the hospice since it was introduced nine years ago.

Ron added: “It really is an exceptional amount to raise during the two-week campaign whilst at the same time providing our supporters with some important guidance on making their Will.

“If the time is ever right for you to remember a charity in your Will, please remember Ayrshire Hospice.  Every gift in every Will, regardless of size, makes a difference to the exceptional and compassionate care that we provide to patients and their families today and in the future.  You can leave us a gift of even 1% in your Will so those closest to you inherit 99%.”

The care provided by Ayrshire Hospice is at no cost to patients or their families, however, it does require extensive, ongoing fundraising support.  It costs £7.9 million per year to run all hospice services, including patient, fundraising and support services – equating to approximately £22,000 per day; and 80p in every £1 raised goes directly towards patient care.
