Ayrshire Hospice Lottery Canvasser

Background

The Ayrshire Hospice (SC011390) was established to enhance the quality of remaining life for those suffering from any life-limiting illnesses including cancer, end stage heart failure and lung disease, as well as to support families and carers facing the loss of a loved one.

We are currently building a new Hospice fit for the 21st Century and developing/evolving our services to meet the increasing demand for care within a community setting. Our In-Patient Unit is currently decanted to East Ayrshire Community Hospital in Cumnock and the aim is to return to our new hospice in summer 2024.

The Role

We are looking to expand our team of self-employed canvassers to promote our lottery throughout Ayrshire and Arran with the aim of signing up new lottery members on a door-to-door or event basis. Our canvassers are self-employed and receive commission based on the valuable work that they do.

Personal Qualities

  • Knowledge of the local area is essential.
  • Knowledge of hospice service provision, understanding of the hospice lottery and the ability to effectively communicate this information in a coherent manner to the general public is essential.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a high standard of presentation skills. Previous experience dealing with customers face to face and developing positive customer relationships is essential.
  • Practical knowledge, skills and experience will normally be obtained through previous experience in a sales environment.
  • You will be ambitious to achieve and will not be discouraged by rejection.
  • You will comply with all training and implement this practice when canvassing in the Ayrshire and Arran community.
  • You will hold a valid driving licence, have access to a vehicle and you will be responsible for your own expenses.

Commission Structure

The canvasser commission rates are as follows:

No. of subscriptions signed up
Commission rate per subscription
Applies to the first 10 subscriptions signed up in a consecutive 7-day period (operates Tuesday - Monday) £15.00
Applies to the 11th-40th subscriptions signed up in a consecutive 7-day period (operates Tuesday - Monday) £20.00
41st+ subscriptions signed up in a consecutive 7-day period
(operates Tuesday - Monday)
£25.00

It should be noted that a 25% retention rate applies to all canvasser commissions. Direct Debit payments and start-ups will be monitored on a regular basis and if the payments have continued for a rolling 6 months, the retention rate with be paid by BACS each month once the 6 month membership has been confirmed. For example, a member signed up in April and paid consistently for 6 months so the retention would be paid on the first November payment.

After a 3 month period, sign-ups will be reviewed. In the event that a direct debit has not started the Ayrshire Hospice Lottery will operate a claw back process where the full amount paid to the Canvasser will be deducted from their next payment. For example, if a member signed up in April and cancelled prior to their first lottery payment, the claw back would be made from the first July payment.

Training

Full training and support is available from our Fundraising Office at 29 Miller Road, Ayr, KA7 2AX. Canvassers must be aged 18 years or over.
