Tricia Stewart, the driving force behind the Rylstone & District Womens’ Institute calendar will be guest speaker at two events in June. When one of her friends lost her husband to non Hodgkins Lymphona, Tricia and her WI friends decided to produce a calendar with a difference to raise funds for research into blood related cancers.
The traditional WI calendar features pictures of rolling hills and village greens but the ladies decided to promote the work and interests of the WI by posing naked! The novel idea really took off - the story was in the national press for weeks, the ladies were voted Women of the Year, appeared on TV, toured America and then looked on with great pride as their story was made into the blockbusting film “Calendar Girls” starring Dame Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.
We had the pleasure of hearing Tricia at a National Fundraising conference and she is an incredibly inspirational and hilarious speaker who is constantly in demand to tell their story. The events are as follows: -
