Family and Patient Support Our philosophy recognises the importance of addressing all aspects of patient and family care including their emotional, spiritual, social, physical and practical needs. Our two Hospice social workers and chaplain, who liase with their colleagues in the community, assist in addressing these needs and provide necessary support.
Our
chaplain is available to offer pastoral support and spiritual care to
patients and families to enable them to explore the issues which arise
in their situation of decreasing health. The chaplain will also provide
a ministry of word, prayer and sacrament as requested and establish
links with local clergy as required. A quiet room is available for the use of families for reflection. Our Bereavement Support Service is led by the chaplain and social workers with the assistance of trained volunteers. Individual support and bi monthly group meetings are offered to the relatives of hospice patients who are provided with a booklet that aims to assist in the understanding of some of the complex feelings and emotions that can be experienced.
