Each year the Ayrshire Hospice benefits from gifts left in people's wills, helping substantially with the total annual cost of providing patient care.
There are two main ways to leave a legacy to the Hospice in your will:
Specific Legacy
This designates a sum of money to be left to the Hospice. If you wish to assign money for a particular use at the Hospice, please ask your solicitor to speak to us first.
Residuary Legacy
This is a popular method as it gives people peace of mind in that they have provided for loved ones in the first instance. Then, the remainder, whether large or small, goes to the charity or charities of their choice. Most of the legacies to the Hospice are residuary legacies.
It is best to have a solicitor draw up a will to ensure that it is valid and complies with all the necessary requirements. The Hospice also helps legal advisors with the correct wording.
You can save money in the long run by leaving your estate in the most tax-efficient way for your beneficiaries. The Hospice is a registered charity so its legacies do not attract Inheritance Tax. Furthermore, assets, such as stocks, shares and property can be transferred to the Hospice free of Capital Gains Tax.
