Important Notes On Gift Aid
The Government is eager to help charities such as the Hospice and, through a scheme called Gift Aid, we are able to reclaim from the Inland Revenue, tax which donors have already paid at the basic rate on income tax. This means that if you Gift Aid your donation The Ayrshire Hospice will receive an additional 28p. The Ayrshire Hospice can claim Gift Aid tax relief of 25p on every pound you give. HMRC will also be operating transitional provisions for Gift Aid donations made from 6 April 2008 until 5 April 2011, paying a Government supplement of 3p on every pound you give.
To enable us to claim this extra money all we ask is that you complete a Gift Aid Declaration form and send it to us. This scheme makes a very important contribution to our fundraising effort and, if appropriate to you, means that more of your tax will go to the Hospice.
- A Gift Aid Declaration can be cancelled at any time by notifying the Hospice - it will then not apply to donations you make on or after the date of cancellation or such later date as you specify.
- Please notify the Hospice if you change your name or address while a declaration is still in force.
- You must pay an amount of Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the amount which may be reclaimed by the Hospice at the basic rate of income tax.
- If in the future your circumstances change and you no longer pay tax on your Income or Capital Gains equal to the tax that the charity reclaims, you can cancel your declaration.
- If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can claim further tax relief in your Self Assessment Tax Return.
- If you are unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, please ask for advice. You can also ask your local tax office for leaflet IR 113 Gift Aid.
